For The Martian, GHS was commissioned to design, manufacture, and deliver bespoke LED panel lighting for the iconic farm scene. The production team required a distinctly futuristic lighting solution that could be fully integrated into the visual effects of the set, with precise control over dynamic lighting states including flashing, flickering, and high-impact sequences to support the explosion scene. To meet these demands, we developed a custom twin-head LED panel measuring 1000 mm by 300 mm, delivering 43 watts per unit in a striking butterfly-wing style design. Each fitting was equipped with 0–10V dimmable drivers, providing maximum flexibility and fine control to achieve the exact lighting effects required for filming. The result was a highly controllable, cinematic lighting solution that seamlessly supported the narrative and visual intensity of the scene while maintaining a clean, futuristic aesthetic suitable for a major feature film production.
